Sharing A Little Goodwill
by Kimberly Danger
It’s easy to lose sight of true holiday spirit when your kids’ wish lists are a mile long and the TV is hyping the latest must-have products 24-7. Instead, try celebrating the season by donating unused possessions to charity. You’ll be investing in your community while clearing your clutter—and come April 15 you might get a little something back from Uncle Sam.
Donating to charity will be even more meaningful if you make it a family activity. Last December we loaded up our minivan and tookour stuff to the local women’s shelter,” says Ember Nevill, a mother of three from Dallas/Ft. Worth. “Knowing someone was able to use our gently used toys, clothes, and household items made my whole family feel happy. It even taught my children that giving away toys feels just as good as receiving them.”
Kimberly Danger outlines ways of giving locally, wisely, conveniently, kindly . . . and getting a tax break.
